Dublin is the venue for a number of huge sporting events throughout the year. These events attract fans from all over Ireland as well as Dublin people. Sporting events are of great financial benefit to Hotels and Bed and Breakfast providers in Dublin.
The GAA (Gaelic Athletic Association) is the biggest sports organisation in the country and its headquarters are situated at Croke Park, Dublin where a brand new stadium was completed a few years ago and where the All-Ireland Football and Hurling Finals are held in September each year. Each of these games attracts more than 80,000 fans and the semi-finals sometimes also have huge crowds.
Of course not all fans stay overnight in Dublin but quite a good number stay from one night to a week and the hotel sector is delighted to get these customers.
International Rugby and Soccer matches were played at Croke Park for the past few years, by agreement with the Gaelic Athletic Association, owners of Croke Park, because their own stadium at Lansdowne Road was under reconstruction. The old stadium was completely demolished and a new ultra modern stadium was constructed in its place. This emerged as the Aviva Stadium and this will be the venue for all future Soccer and Rugby Internationals as wellas other events including big rock concerts and possibly operas.
