Mexico Hotels: The Festival of Mexico

By Claire Collins

One of the best ways to understand a culture is to take part in its celebrations. Travelling to festivals provides ample opportunities to learn about a country's heritage, and to have fun while you're at it! The Festival of Mexico is definitely one of the best events to attend if you're travelling to this beautiful and culturally vibrant country.

Zocalo is the name given to Mexico city's heart - its cultural centre - which has been around since Aztec times but which fell into desolation for a very long time. In the 80s the city decided it was time to bring Zocalo back to its former self, and this is when the Festival of Mexico first began. It is now held annually, every March.

The Festival of Mexico lasts for two weeks so you will find all kinds of shows and performances as well as music and food. Since many hotels fill up quickly during the annual festival, book one of the comfortable and convenient hotels in Mexico now to ensure you can take part in the festivities. Proceeds from the festival also fund a variety of children's causes, including an organisation dedicated to helping homeless Mexico City children.

And children are celebrated in the festival as well! There are plenty of things on to keep kids happy, such as games, crafts and shows for kids. If you're travelling around Mexico with kids in tow this is an excellent time to go. There are also loads of cheap hotels which are suitable for families.

You can find Mexico hotels in a variety of price ranges throughout the entire downtown area, which make a great base for attending festival events and exploring Mexico City.
