The Whole Family Can Enjoy Horseback Riding Vacations

By Harry Scott

For families and for couples on their honeymoons, horseback riding vacations offer a unique opportunity to appreciate outdoor scenery. You might not think this kind of vacation is family-friendly, but it actually is very much so, as well as being perfect for romantic getaways.

Before you venture out on a horseback riding vacation, you might want to try it out in smaller doses. Get your backside used to being on a horse for long periods at a time prior to committing yourself to a two-week stay with nothing more than geldings and mares to keep you company. You do not want to spend days on end on the back of a bucking bronco if you have never ridden before. Once your back and legs get used to being on a horse for hours on end, you can then comfortably commit to a longer vacation.

An equestrian vacation spent at a dude ranch could be fun for the entire family, but it's not a good idea to surprise anyone with a week-long stay at this kind of location. You might find that some members of family are not really the cowboy or cowgirl type. If, however, you've all discussed it and are rearing to go, then saddle up for a fun time at the ranch!

Possibly the most fun part of being at a dude ranch is the great clothing you'll get to wear. Where else can you wear plaid shirts and belts with rhinestone buckles and fit right in? You will want to be sure and have durable jeans to wear for all those rides, and leave behind the designer shoes. Boots with a short heel are recommended for riding, although you can definitely find some very cute boots to wear! Also get a matching hat and be sure to pack the sunscreen as you'll be outside a lot.

Your family and you will have a great time on your horseback riding vacation if you spend a little time planning first. No matter what, you are sure to have some wonderful memories.
