Set and Setting in a Hot Tub

By Robert Ryan

Hot tubs when used with the aid of audio, the right environment, and aromatherapy oils can bring you to a desired state of peace in your mind, effecting your spirit. This state of mind is known as a trance, a place where you are completely relaxed and completely free. People enter trance states more often then they may realize. On a long car ride or in an airplane, when we zone out and lose track of time we have entered a trance state. This is a desirable state, and with the proper discourse it can be entered more often and for longer periods of time.

Purchasing a hot tub with the idea that it will give you time to relax each day, or even put you into a trance is a serious commitment. You need to also landscape around the spa, and include a relaxing spa enclosure. Usually a gazebo works well as an enclosure. It seems to bring you into a state of calm. The gazebo will need to be surrounded by a meditative landscape. A Zen Garden, Japanese Garden, or Rose Garden can all be meditative. Once you have decided which luxury hot tub you want you will likely need to contact a general contractor who specializes in landscaping to consult with you and install the spa enclosure and the garden.

It is important that you involve the auditory senses in your quest to fully enter a trance state. Calming sounds of nature or chanting are top choices. You may even venture into trace inducing transcendental meditation recordings. Regardless of how you decide to involve the auditory senses it is important to have a quality sound system installed in the spa enclosure. There are a variety of ways to do this, but the simplest is to have high quality weather proof speakers installed in the gazebo, you will then need a remote control relay to utilize the equipment stored in the house. A sales person at a high end boutique stereo store would be able to set this up easily. Usually the boutique style stores will also install and set up the system if you buy it from them.

There are scents such as lavender and sandal wood that are intensely relaxing. There are commercially available aromatherapy oils that can be added to hot tubs. Many luxury hot tubs have a dispenser for adding them to the water. The scent of smell is a way we access the world. When we find an escape for that sense we move closer to total relaxation.

The world we interact with is immediately evident to our eyes. Introducing a relaxing setting to our eyes helps relax our mind. There are many ways of doing this, but you will need to determine how much you will spend, and how many hours of work you are willing to put into maintaining the garden. A general contractor specializing in landscaping can give you some ideas and a good bid as to the cost. There are some good examples of relaxing settings. A Zen Meditation Garden is a great example, and it is low cost and almost maintenance free. On the other end of the spectrum is a Japanese garden with a multi- tiered waterfall, looking down into your personal koi pond is perfect. There are other gardens that are nice, such as a rose garden. Planning what you see when you are attempting to enter trance is an important factor in your success.
