Keep The Vehicles Risk-free With Deer Whistles For Cars

By Nena Laursen

Just months ago, our friend ran into a deer as he was driving his motorcycle - or quite the other way around. Luckily, there was no major damage to his body and head only a minor wound on his foot. Every weekend, he goes out pretty much, hence for the purpose of his having an electronic deer whistle repeller. He says now that when he rides and sees a deer, the deer just stands still instead of trying to cross the road.He was very lucky - but took precautions to prevent getting hit by a deer again. At this moment of the year, the deer are very active, they move about as changes of the seasons are expected.

Are deer the most common cause of vehicular accidents?Deer tend to gather at the edge of roads because of the tall grass and vegetation, they move around a lot and tend to use roads as paths, and it is their natural instinct to zigzag when escaping from predators. And, during the evening hours, deer are blinded by headlights and cannot see where they are going. The peak hours for the deer to eat is at dusk, a few hours before night time and dawn. Hence, it is to your advantage to be careful during these hours of the day.

Another fact for you to be aware of about deer ways and precautions to avoid them, regardless of the kind of vehicle you use is to be extremely careful on two lane or rural roads. We live in a rural area, and I can tell you that every time we leave the house, we see a deer or two, sometimes a herd.We have herds that forage in the yard close to the road.So if you see one deer, there are usually others, so slow down and watch for crossings. Signs of deer crossing are placed in particular areas in the road for the purpose of making you aware that it is their common passageway. When we ride at night, we are careful of getting the headlights reflection in the eyes. The concept of "caught like a deer in the headlights" originated from a deer who stalled because his vision was impaired due to the lights of the vehicle. When you encounter this, turn your lights off and then on again.

The Motorcycle Safety Foundation recommends a helmet as the most protective piece of gear you can wear while riding a bike. The helmet should include a face shield to protect against rocks and insects. A wind protector or sunglass is not enough to give you security on your ride.Make sure that the face shield is securely fastened to the helmet, scratch free because scratches can refract light and blur vision, use a tinted shield during the day and a clear one at night. It pays to wear heavy, over the ankle boots to deter getting burns from exhaust pipes, and contact from flying road debris. The doctor told our friend that had it not for his durable boots on, the damage to him could have been worse.Wear boots that give you a good grip on the foot pegs.

Use a fine pair of thick gloves to shield your hands from the heat of the sun, wind, cold and blisters. In case of accidents, it can also prevent bruises, cuts and abrasions. A body gear made of leather or abrasion resistant fabric is what you should wear to avoid or reduce the extent of damage in case you crash. You have deer horns on your vehicle, so there is no reason not to install it on your motorbike where you are more exposed to, where every bit of additional protection is necessary. Take pleasure in driving your bike without the anxiety of bumping into a deer.
