You'll Love Atlantis Marine World

By Mike Woods

Unlike the ancient lost continent Atlantis Marine World on long island is easy to find. It's a place that's popular with kids and their parents, teachers and aunts and uncles. Modern and innovative it's aimed at making learning fun.

This is a place where kids and their parents will find educational experiences that are fun and exciting. Lots of hands on activities and adventures spark imaginations. There are opportunities to dive among sharks, snorkel in a tropical lagoon and pet a stingray.

Little ones as young as two years can get an introduction to sea-dwelling creatures in the Mommy and Me program. Stories, crafts and music entertain and teach. And friendly guides provide opportunities for up-close encounters with a variety of creatures.

Older children can participate in a variety of age targeted activities, indoors and out. There are sleepover nights with special guided tours of the exhibits. Participants will help feed the fish before chowing down on pizza before lights out.

The Long Island aquarium offers a variety of camps and outdoor programs. There are tour boat trips and walks through a variety of ecosystems and habitats. Pre-teens and young teens can participate in the Scientist for a Day program. They will learn to collect scientific data the way real scientists do.

But Long Island's Marine World is not just for kids. Adults will be equally intrigued by the many fascinating and informative exhibits. There are also special walking and canoeing tours for adults that focus on particular plants, animals and habitats.

During the summer adults can enjoy a Saturday evening wine and cheese cruise along the Peconic river. Atlantis Marine World is a unique and memorable setting for a wedding with a variety of catering and facilities rental options available. Facilities are also available for other social and corporate events.

The aquarium also houses an active rescue center run by a not-for-profit foundation. Their mission is to rescue and rehabilitate injured or sick endangered animals such as whales, dolphins and sea turtles. Visitors can visit the hospital and see recovering creatures being prepared to return to the wild.

Tired visitors who have put in a long day will be happy to know that the the Courtyard by Marriott Long Island MacArthur Airport hotel is less than half an hour away. This is a great place for members of the wedding party. People attending a corporate event at the Aquarium will find everything they need for business and pleasure.

Guestrooms are smoke free. They feature a flexible workspace with complimentary WiFi. Bathrooms are spacious and bedding is plush.

Guests can work out in the on-site fitness center or take advantage of free guest passes to World Gym. For those who haven't had their fill of water-related activity there's an indoor swimming pool. Free shuttle service to the air port is available from seven in the morning until ten-thirty at night.
