Gillece Complaints Of Yuletide Tree Season

By Jamie Rose

How does earning a full years pay in only three months sound to you? It sounded good to me. That is why I started my own holiday lights business a few years back. It is not a taxing job and you do not need big bucks to get your company up and running.

Having spent several months without finding a job after being laid off a few years back, I decided to take some advice from a friend, who suggested I follow in his footsteps by setting up a company. He is the owner of a booming landscaping business, which he runs in the summer months, then switches to fitting Christmas lights once winter comes along. He convinced me it was what I should do.

Remember to make a timely start as early as November 1 to promotion, including distributing full color flyers on high quality paper publicizing your firm. Seriously, if you are unsure as to how to produce a superior flyer, employ a graphic designer. It will be worth the expense when you attract more customers. Start with 1000 flyers and get the post office to deliver them, if you still have the money to do this. But you can still deliver by hand if you have sufficient time. This is the last time you have to spend money on the job now, though, as it should all be cash flowing into your pockets from here on in.

The phone should start ringing as soon as your flyers are in circulation. Arrange meetings with potential customers quickly, ensuring you make plans for a two-hour chat. Always take notes and draw sketches of the ideas discussed as you must know precisely what your client wants.

To make certain of their custom and to help buy supplies for the job, get between 30% and 50% of the total cost up front. You should always offer to collect extra lights they might require for a display as this allows you to augment your profits by adding on up to 10% for your time. Call it a Christmas bonus for yourself!

Now comes the easiest aspect of your job erecting the lights and then, a few weeks later, taking them down. If you have acquired lots of clients, hire some help for this task and pay them well. Teams of three are perfect for this chore.

Remember to make the all-important follow-up phone calls. Its how you discover how well you performed and to secure work for next winter. It really is simpler to have a strong client base than to continually be looking for new customers. The goal is to bring in a six-figure income as soon as possible, but probably within three years. It can certainly happen if you have completed every job to a high standard.

I am only two years into being a holiday lights provider, but already earn $96,000 for three months work. You can do the same if you follow the steps above, and then take the remainder of the year off. Sound good? I thought so.
