Big Bear Cabins California: A Family-Friendly Winter Destination

By Amie Wyatt

Big Bear California, a one-of-a-kind resort town, is nestled in the San Bernardino National Forest. The region receives a significant amount of snowfall, as its elevation ranges from 6,750 to 9,000 feet. The mountains gather up to 100 inches, while the lower lake region receives an average of 61.8 inches. Big Bear cabins are the best cabins California has to offer because so many exciting winter opportunities are only minutes way.

The most common winter sports, skiing and snowboarding, are very close to most Big Bear cabins. The largest resort, Bear Mountain, offers visitors 1,700 vertical feet of terrain for all levels of experience. It also has the highest, steepest and most advanced run in Southern California! Snow Summit, Bear Mountain's sister resort, is a short shuttle ride away and offers visitors an extra 45 acres of terrain park. After a strenuous day on the mountain, everyone heads home to their Big Bear cabins to soak in the tub or relax in front of the fire.

Cross-country skiing and snowshoeing are also common winter activities in the San Bernardino National Forest. The Rim Nordic Ski Area, situated only half an hour away from numerous Big Bear cabins, has an expansive cross-country trail system and many snowshoeing locations. For the more adventurous types, a guided snowshoe trip will give you an educational and safe experience. Some Big Bear cabins California even have their own private network of trails on their property.

Big Bear also holds numerous family-friendly holiday events. Kids and adults alike will love the Bear Valley Tour of Lights, the New Year's Eve Torchlight Parade, the Mountain Christmas Boutique and Santa's Grand Entrance and Lighting Ceremony. Be sure to set some time aside for snow angel making and snowman building, too.

Although it's exciting to explore the winter wonderland, staying inside Big Bear cabins can be just as fun. You can have a long soak in a Jacuzzi tub, gaze at the stars through your skylights and cozy up in front of a roaring fire with a glass of wine. But whether you decide to stay indoors or go out, make your stay as memorable as possible by staying in the best cabins California has to offer.
