This Holiday Season Try These Dessert Ideas To Win Over Your Gathering

By Mike Smith

One of the best times to make desserts for family and friends is during the wintertime. There are big meals during Thanksgiving and Christmas, as well as those in between times to give everyone a little warmth with a dessert. It doesn't matter where you are in the world, because these great tasting treats are loved by everyone.

Holiday desserts, wintertime, and Thanksgiving desserts as well as cooking desserts will be a little heavier as well, usually including things like pies, cakes, custard sauces and comfort style foods. These are designed to offer a feeling of fullness, warmth and well being. Wintertime is typically a time when the outside is cold and stronger flavors such as chocolate, cinnamon, and spices, along with warmth are welcome.

During Thanksgiving you will definitely see a pumpkin pie or two, but during Christmas there are steamed puddings and custard sauces that bring out the holiday.

One of the most popular winter treats is the apple crisp. A simple combination of fresh apples mixed with cinnamon, sugar, and a little butter. Once you create the crispy coating of sugar, oatmeal, flour, cinnamon, and a little butter, it takes about an hour in the oven for this delightful dessert to be served.

Usually apple crisp desserts are then topped with a sauce such as custard sauce, or eaten with ice cream, although they are equally as good when eaten plain.

The United States is well known for creating rich and full flavored desserts. They are extremely filling, and if you're eating a Thanksgiving meal then it's important to eat smaller portions of your turkey, mashed potatoes, and stuffing. Since the main course was fantastic, you don't want to let down your guests when it comes to the dessert. Make sure the flavor is high by maybe using fruity gelato, sherbet, or custard.

Other desserts you might find during those wintertime meals (even if it's not a holiday) are; chocolate mousse, dessert souffls, baked Alaska, bread pudding, or several different hearty cakes.

So what's for dessert? This is a question you will hear from most of your guests even before the main course is served. Everyone loves a sweet ending, and it's usually because most individuals don't treat themselves to something like this on their own. It's just something that everyone is anticipating, especially if you add in a little coffee or espresso as well. In the end you will be rewarded with accolades for your efforts.
