Tralee is a very popular town to be in when The Rose of Tralee International Festival opens in August. This festival attracts many people from all over the world including many parts of Ireland.

This International Festival is very popular as it attracts over 100,000 visitors each year. This year (2010) Clare Kambamettu from London UK was crowned the Rose of Tralee. The Rose selection is shown live on Irish television and also on the Internet which is watched by families worldwide.

Women of Irish descent travel from many parts of the world to attend the Rose of Tralee competition and many travel from America, Middle East, Australia, Europe, UK and many other countries. There is lots of entertainment to enjoy at this festival which includes street entertainment, fun fairs, circus, fashion shows and music acts. As there are so many events and activities to take part in, it is a very family friendly place to be.

The hotel industry including B&B's and guest houses warmly welcome the custom from the festival as many visitors wish to stay while it is ongoing. Over 30 Roses compete every year and they usually bring their friends and family to support them in the competition which is a bonus for the hotels as it keeps them busy during the months of August.

Many dance and music acts play at the Dome which is built each year for the International Festival and the Rose of Tralee Selection. This year two popular acts Alexandra Burke from the X Factor and Diversity from Britain's Got Talent performed at the Dome in connection with "The Big Party" which is presented by Radio Kerry. Every year a Rose Ball is held at the Dome to welcome and open the Rose of Tralee; this is very popular with locals and visitors who are also welcome to attend the Rose Ball. This festival, where you will find many events to attend, is held over a five day period.
