Gift Ideas for First Moments...

By CJ Smith

As the saying goes - there is a first for everything.

There are first smiles, first words, first steps, first birthdays, first Christmases and many other firsts in our lives. You can commemorate your firsts in little ways or grand ways but the choice celebration must be fitting for the occasion. To follow is a list of fantastic firsts in most of our lives that we should celebrate and some of the most common ways to celebrate them:

Baby's First: The first smile is always hard to capture on camera - but those that follow are not. Make sure you always have a camera on hand for the next ones and find a baby book or photo frame to show it off in. Baby's first tooth...now this is a special one. Ideally you will take a photo of that budding pearly white AND you will find a creative storage facility for it. Again baby books with envelopes are are great for this. But if you happen to have an issue with keeping the tooth - a great way to remember this moment is with an First Tooth Ornament. Same goes for first steps, ornaments are great for that occasion too.

Beyond all of the great babies first events you can commemorate, there are other keepsake worthy moments in life as well. Sticking with the theme of ornaments - the 1st Christmas ornaments world is full of fantastic firsts.

Kids First Sports Leagues are also GREAT to celebrate. There are plenty of photo frames for those team or individual photos. Scrapbooking can tell the full story of the first sports league a little more vividly as well. Even if you don't know how to scrapbook - you can always pay someone to do it for you. Then you can use a shadow box frame to preserve it - or start a full scrapbook album.

Another great first to celebrate is a First Vacation / Holiday. All first vacations and holidays are generally remembered by colorful photos - that's a given...as a result it makes sense to put these in an album as well. In fact, today there are many albums designed with holiday themes in mind. BUT, there are also fantastic globes for many locations around the world (with fish, sparkles, flowers and all sorts of anti-snow confetti inside). And like all other occasions you can find great Travel Ornaments for your annual tree display as well. Speaking of Travel.

Speaking of travel, a hot new trend in celebrating firsts is New Drivers Ornaments. At OrnamentsandMore.com we see a lot of sales come through on this subject every day (throughout the year). It's a great way to celebrate that special moment with/for a loved one - - without spending too much money.

Beyond Travel, as your friends and loved ones grow up - future firsts might include First Graduations / Careers and New Homes. Our research tells us that there are lots of creative photo frames and scrapbooking products on these subjects as well. And for those new grads personalized notepads, pens, briefcases and career appropriate items are also a great option. We have found that there are a lot more gift ideas for new homes than most though. Some gift ideas for new homes (apart from ornaments) is engraved door knockers, personalized mailboxes, customized address plates, personalized door mats, custom flower beds/pots, named front porch chairs and all sorts of entry way show pieces. Historically speaking however, aside from all of the amazing first's for baby.

The next hot topic has to go to couples! People will celebrate everything from a couples first Christmas to the engagement year, wedding dates and every special anniversary year as well. There are some traditional theories about what sort of gift should be given for milestone anniversary years, common to most nations are: 5th Wooden, 10th Tin, 15th Crystal, 20th China, 25th Silver, 30th Pearl, 40th Ruby, 50th Golden, 60th Diamond. Photo frames for these special occasions are available in most card and gift stores. But you can burnish, etch, engrave, hand paint, wrap with custom ribbons or simply post a heart shaped ornament or pendant in the matching gem/stone/element to bracelet, necklace or plaque to keep with tradition as well.

No matter what you are celebrating there is always something wonderful you can do it with!
